Our Alaska Cruise

WOW!!!!!!! What a fantastic time. We left Vancouver on 27 July in lovely sunshine. Sitting on the aft deck having a drink, watching the sites of Vancouver go past: Lion gate bridge, Stanley Park etc.
After a few days at sea, eating and eating and drinking we arrived at Ketchikan and went ashore for the morning. What a pretty little town with lots of heritage. Totem poles everywhere.

I also found a store that sells jewelry made with black coral, BK Passman. It is very rare and one of the only people in the world that can take coral. We set sail again and the next morning we woke up in Juneau. In Juneau we went to Mendenhall Glacier. It was unbelievable!!!

Also lots of people. The shades of blue in the ice and the huge pieces that have come off the glacier and just float on past.

That afternoon we got back on the ship and headed into Tracey Arms Fjord. It was cold and windy when we arrived at Sawyer Glacier, but we still took heaps of photos. It was truly fantastic.

Heaps of ice everywhere, in amazing shades of blue. We also saw whales, seals and dolphins, as well as heaps of waterfalls.

The next day we awoke to Skagway a small town, which is were we spent this day, with about 8000 other people from 4 different cruise ships. We did a tour that took us into Yukon, Canada.

It was very strange having to take our passports and having our bus boarded. We went through Fraser town on our way to a small local town called Carcross, were we stamped our passports. On this trip we stopped at the "Welcome signs" and we saw the miniature forest, a desert in the middle of nowhere, and a beautiful lake (Emerald Lake). This was our last shore visit for a few days. We spent the last few days of our cruise eating, drinking, watching shows, and sitting around relaxing on the deck by the pool. The closer we got to Vancouver the weather got sunnier and warmer. The cruse ship was very enjoyable; they even turned down your bed at night and left towel animals.
The Freestyle concept of the ship was good, you ate when you wanted where you wanted, there were 10 different places to you could eat, the flash ones you had to pay an extra $15 per head for. You only had to get dressed up for one of the restaurants the rest you could wear jeans and a shirt. A good time was had by us and yes we would recommend it!!!!

Looks good. We got hit by a rogue wave on our cruise up to Vanuatu. Plenty of people with broken bones and bruising. Jan and I were not hurt. I was 1st in line for the lifeboats. Good trip apart from that. Later

Awesome trip so far, saves us all going over now as with the commentary and photo's it's just like a guided tour. Carry on the good work.
